Buying & pricing 5 questions

How much does a Paragon portable home cost?
Our homes start from around $135,000 for a one-bedroom and run up to roughly $240,000 for a fully specified three-bedroom build. The final figure depends on the model, your finishes, and any upgrades — every quote is fully itemised before work starts, so you know exactly what you’re paying for. You can see indicative Standard and Premium pricing on each model page.
What’s the difference between the Standard and Premium ranges?
Both ranges are built to the same NZ3604 structural standard with the same care — the difference is in the finishes and inclusions. Premium steps up the cladding options, joinery, appliances, and fit-out for a more refined home, while Standard keeps things smart and cost-effective without cutting corners on the build itself.
What’s included in the price?
Your quote covers the full build to the spec we agree on — framing, cladding, roofing, insulation, kitchen, bathroom, joinery, and the finishes you’ve chosen. We lay it all out in writing up front so there are no hidden costs. Transport to your site is quoted separately based on distance and access, so the delivered price is clear before you commit.
Do you offer finance, or work with lenders?
Relocatable and tiny homes can absolutely be financed. We work with people like Mortgage Life who really understand this kind of build, and we’re happy to connect you with them or other lenders who can point you in the right direction. With the right support, owning your own home is well within reach.
How does payment work, and do I need a deposit?
Yes — a deposit secures your spot in the build schedule, with progress payments at agreed stages through the build and the balance due before delivery. We set the full payment schedule out in writing before anything starts, so there are no surprises along the way.

Design & customisation 4 questions

How much can I customise my home?
A lot. You work directly with Luke to shape the layout, cladding, windows, joinery, colours, and finishes around how you actually want to live. Our joinery is designed and made in-house, so clever storage and bespoke details are part of the deal — not an upsell. The streamlined builds keep a fixed layout to hold costs down, but everything else in the range is genuinely yours to tailor.
Can you build off-grid or for a remote site?
Yes — we’ve delivered plenty of off-grid and remote builds, from West Coast bush blocks to high-country stations. We can advise on off-grid power and water setups, and plan any tricky access logistics well ahead of delivery day.
Do you build commercial spaces, not just homes?
We do. Alongside homes we build shops, offices, studios, and other commercial spaces to the same standard. If you’ve got a portable or relocatable building in mind, have a chat with Luke about it.
Can I make changes once the build has started?
Small finishing choices — colours, fittings, joinery details — can often still be adjusted early in the build. Structural changes are locked in at the design and planning stage, since that’s what your quote and build schedule are based on. Because you’re dealing directly with Luke, anything that’s still possible is an easy conversation.

The build & quality 5 questions

How long does the whole process take?
Most builds run four to six months from design sign-off to delivery, depending on the model, your spec, and how busy the workshop is. We give you a realistic timeline up front in the design and planning stage, then keep you posted with weekly updates the whole way through.
Where are the homes built?
Every home is handcrafted in our Ohoka workshop in North Canterbury — no outsourcing, no shortcuts. The whole build happens under one roof by an experienced team using locally sourced timber and materials.
Can I visit the workshop and see my home being built?
Absolutely — your home is built in our Ohoka workshop and you’re welcome to pop in and see it taking shape. If you’re not local, we send weekly progress photos so you always know exactly where things are at.
What standard are the homes built to?
Every Paragon home is built in full compliance with the New Zealand Building Code (NZS 3604:2011 Timber-Framed Buildings) — seismically braced, weather-ready, warm, and dry. Building to NZ3604 also makes our homes easier to insure and finance.
What warranty do you provide?
Every home comes with a 10-year structural warranty and a 3-year build warranty — a reflection of the confidence we have in the way we build and the materials we use.

Consents & your site 3 questions

Do I need building consent?
Most of our portable homes are designed to be relocatable, but consent requirements depend on the site, the local council, and how the home will be used. During the consultation and planning stages we help you figure out exactly what’s needed.
What kind of foundation do I need?
It depends on your site — most homes sit on piles, screw piles, or a slab. We confirm the right foundation type with you well ahead of delivery and give you site-prep guidance so everything’s ready when your home arrives.
How are water and power connected?
Standard connections are a 20–25mm buried water pipe and a 32A caravan outlet or a buried cable for power. If your site doesn’t have services, we can advise on off-grid water and power setups.

Delivery & coverage 3 questions

Do you deliver to my area?
We deliver right across the South Island — from the top of the South down to Southland, and over to the West Coast. If your spot isn’t on our service-areas list, give Luke a call; chances are we already cover it or can sort something out.
How is the home transported and placed on site?
We arrange transport and use a HIAB or transport truck to deliver and set your home on its prepared foundations. We confirm site access and the foundation type — piles, screw piles, or a slab — with you well ahead of delivery day.
Does delivery distance affect the price?
Your build price is fixed and itemised before work starts. Transport is quoted separately based on distance and site access, so you know the full delivered cost up front — no surprises on the day.

Aftercare & support 2 questions

What happens after my home is delivered?
We don’t disappear once the keys are handed over. We’ll check in a few weeks after delivery, provide your warranty information and maintenance tips, and we’re always on the end of the phone if you have a question or need an adjustment down the track.
Who do I talk to if something needs attention later?
You talk to Luke — the same person who built your home. There’s no call centre and no runaround. If something needs maintenance or adjusting down the line, just give us a bell.
