# Our Process — Building a Paragon Portables Home

> Building a Paragon Portables home follows six clear steps: initial consultation, design and planning, build, finishing touches, delivery and placement, and aftercare. Most builds run four to six months from design sign-off to delivery. Every home is handcrafted in the Ohoka workshop in North Canterbury, and clients work directly with owner Luke from the first sketch to delivery day.

## How long does a Paragon build take?

Most builds run four to six months from design sign-off to delivery, depending on the model, the chosen spec, and how busy the workshop is. A realistic timeline is provided up front during design and planning, with weekly progress updates the whole way through.

## The six steps

### 1. Initial consultation
A no-obligation chat about the site, budget, lifestyle and wish list. Paragon visits local clients or welcomes a visit to the show home. Site access and power/water considerations are discussed, along with size, layout, materials and finishes across the range.

### 2. Design & planning
A concept is drafted around the chosen model and the client's needs — different cladding, bigger windows, more storage are all options. Once the design is confirmed, drawings and a build schedule are prepared, council and code compliance is discussed, and a quote and timeline are provided for approval.

### 3. Build begins
Everything is made in the Ohoka workshop by experienced builders — no outsourcing, no shortcuts, using locally sourced timber and materials that meet the NZS 3604:2011 standard. Precision timber framing, roof and cladding run through to lockup, then interior fit-out (kitchen, bathroom, insulation) begins, with weekly progress updates by photo or visit.

### 4. Finishing touches
Once the shell is built, the focus shifts to custom features — shelving, lighting, colour schemes and soft fittings. Paint and stain finishes are applied, kitchen appliances are installed if chosen, and plumbing, electrical and gas fitting are completed and certified.

### 5. Delivery & placement
Paragon arranges transport and delivers the home to site — a Canterbury paddock, a remote West Coast bach spot, or an urban section. Site prep guidance is provided in advance, the home is placed with precision, and a final inspection and walk-through is carried out with the client.

### 6. Aftercare & support
Paragon checks in a few weeks after handover, provides warranty information and maintenance tips, and remains available for questions or adjustments. Repairs or adjustments are an easy phone call away.

## Process FAQ

**Do I need to pay a deposit, and how does payment work?** Yes — a deposit secures a spot in the build schedule, with progress payments at agreed stages and the balance due before delivery. The full payment schedule is set out in writing before anything starts.

**Can I make changes once the build has started?** Small finishing choices (colours, fittings, joinery details) can often still be adjusted early in the build. Structural changes are locked in at the design and planning stage. Because clients deal directly with Luke, anything still possible is an easy conversation.

**Do you help with council consent and site requirements?** Yes — during consultation and planning, Paragon talks through whether a build needs consent, site access, and how power and water will connect. Requirements depend on the council, the site, and how the home will be used.

**Can I visit the workshop and see my home being built?** Yes — homes are built in the Ohoka workshop and clients are welcome to visit. Non-local clients receive weekly progress photos.
